When selecting the replacement colour I click on the replacement colour swatch and type in the hexadecimal value. Attached is a small section of the overall image by way of example. All of the hundreds of areas I'm replacing have exactly the same single colour. When I use the Colour Replace tool I use the dropper on part of my image to select the colour I want to replace. I just wish I could get the accuracy of the replacement colour to stick. The Color Replace tool does do a great job of selcting all of these areas in one go when I set the fuzziness to zero. My image has hundreds of locations that I wish to replace the colour and so manually selcting them is just way too time consuming.

There are other colour replacements that I've been trying and they are as bad, and in some cases much worse, than what I have specified. It is important that I be able to specify the exact replacement colour and so this difference, while small, is not acceptable in my case. However, after using Replace Color, when I check the color that now appears in my image it has HSB values of 357,60,63 which is NOT what I requested. For example, I select an area of an orangy red with HSB values of 14,57,73 and want to replace it with a darkish red with HSB values of 357,67,55. The color replacement in itself is working, my issue is that the replacement color I specify isn't exactly what the program changes it to. Thanks all.I am using the Enhance > Adjust Color > Replace Color feature to try and change areas of one color to another. You can also specify a range with the color selector that will pick colors in the range. Once you've made your selection, your color modifications will only apply to that selection. Not the same as the color picker (eyedrop). It works like the magic wand, but will select all parts of the image that are the same color, even if they're not connected to where you're selecting. It should be between the magic wand and the scissors. The color select tool is the one that looks like a pointing finger with some blocks. Not sure what to do after I choose a color using the color picker. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the steps jeffegg2 suggested. Steep pancake edited this topic ages ago. Open up the Hue-Saturation window and select the main color to adjust, then play around with the hue, lightness, and saturation until you get it right. I don't know if this will help, but it might: Use the color select tool, you can adjust the range of the color selected, and then change it with color balance/hue. I tried the masking technique outlined at and blackmoon development for cutting out complex hair but neither technique is working for me as the individual's hair and the background are both light in color. If I could replace a color range based upon what's in a selection somewhere in an open area of the image, it would in theory replace the same color that's embedded between the strands of hair. It's a little more complicated than that. If you need to replace them with just one color, then why not use bucket fill tool on selection? :-) It would be nice if I could make a selection and tell GIMP, 'This is the range of colors I want to replace with 'X' color. The single color replacement tool in GIMP is nice but impractical for the job I have in mind. For instance a range of orange hues in a image with black. Is there an easy way to replace a range of colors in a image with another color.
